Unable to express our feelings in words, fused to the fateless, flick-book image of life, the reading eye becomes a stranger to intensity, specificity and irony and requires little symbols to be sure that it is getting the correct reading. We call these ‘emoticons’, the graveyard of the face. If these things did the job they were supposed to do, express feeling, there would be trillions of the things, a sample of twelve I offer to the discerning reader. 😉

So. I wrote about this a few months ago, but I didn’t mention something which has since occurred to me, but which, thanks to an afternoon communing at twilight with the stillness of the lake, I’ve now come to see is actually more central than I’d first thought.
